DIBRUGARH: Two persons were killed and five injured in a lightning strike at Paanbesa Senimora village in Sivasagar district at 6.45am on Friday. Another person was killed in Dhemaji when a tree uprooted in a thunderstorm fell on him.
The deceased were identified as Ojram Yein (45) and Diganta Mili (28). They were working in a paddy field along with a few others when a bolt of lightning hit them. The injured, which also included the wife of Diganta Mili, were taken to the Joysagar civil hospital where they are undergoing treatment.
Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi visited the homes of the deceased and made arrangements for bringing their bodies to Joysagar civil hospital for autopsy. “The victims’ families will be compensated as per government norms. The injured are being provided free treatment,” Akhil said.
