The municipal corporation’s finance and contract committee on Wednesday approved development works of ₹25 crore in a meeting held under the chairpersonship of mayor Kulbhushan Goyal.

The development projects approved included road-related works for ward number 10 in Sector 12 at a cost of ₹2.33 crore, recarpeting of inner roads for ward number 17 in Sector 25 and ward number 18 in Sector 26 at a cost of ₹2.33 crore and ₹3.70 crore respectively.
The repair work of the drainage system near the underpass in Sector 19, which is prone to waterlogging after rains, was also given the green signal. Construction of concrete roads and laying of a new pipeline will now be carried out at a cost of ₹1.45 crore.
Apart from this, the F&CC approved a tender for door-to-door collection of garbage in Churiwala village.
Maloya community centre set for renovation
Chandigarh The municipal corporation’s finance and contract committee has decided to repair and renovate the community centre at EWS Colony, Maloya, at an estimated cost of ₹23.1 lakh along with other developmental agenda items. This was decided in a meeting of the finance panel chaired by mayor Anup Gupta. The panel approved the estimate of ₹13 lakh for the preparation of G20 meetings scheduled to be held in the city.
Railway overbridge in Sector 81-82 set for beautification
Mohali The area around the railway overbridge, Sector 81-82, Airport road is set to undergo beautification. Sharing the information, deputy commissioner Aashika Jain said the district administration officials have been assigned duties to coordinate with the railway officials and ensure that the project is completed soon. Beautification of other spots along railway lines will also be explored. The district administration has been working with railways for maintenance of underpasses at Mubarakpur and Ghazipur, looking to do away with inconvenience being faced by the public in Dhakoli. Jain also reviewed the railway station beautification proposal.
Samarvir Sahi Golf: Arjun maintains lead on Day 2
Chandigarh Overnight leader, city-based Arjun Singh Bhatia maintained his dominance on Day 2 of the Samarvir Sahi Golf Championship, being held at the Chandigarh Golf Club. Arjun, 17, had shot a 5-under-par round of 67 on Tuesday and followed it up a one-under-par round of 71 to bring his tally to 6-under-par over the two days. Trailing him by two shots, Jaiveer from Railways had a score of 4-under-par of 141. As many as 51 players moved into the third round after the mid way cut.
QS rankings 2023: PU ranked 151-200 in pharma
Chandigarh Panjab University (PU) has been ranked in the 151-200 bracket for pharmacy and pharmacology in the latest QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023 that were released on Wednesday. The varsity had been placed in the same bracket in the 2022 edition of the rankings. In the physics list, PU was ranked in the 451-500 bracket, up from the 501-550 ranked last year. The varsity found itself in the 601-630 bracket for chemistry as per the rankings. Chandigarh University (CU), meanwhile, has been ranked in the bracket 401-450 in business and management studies and 301-350 bracket in computer science and information systems. The varsity was 342 for engineering and technology and in the 101-150 bracket for hospitality and leisure management.
PEC hosts talk on big data, machine learning in Cloud
Chandigarh Punjab Engineering College’s (PEC) department of computer science and engineering on Wednesday organised an expert lecture as a part of the ongoing Industry Academia Week. The lecture was delivered by Navneet Kamboj, a big-data engineer at Google India on the topic “Modern Applications of Recent Technologies Like Big Data and Machine Learning in Cloud”. PEC’s department of chemistry also organised an expert talk on “Sustainable Technologies: Air Purification and Fire Fighting Foams”, delivered by Research and Development at Molekule Inc vice-president Jaspreet Dhau.
