NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today lauded the efforts of panchayat workers in largely keeping the Covid-19 disease away from India’s villages.
He was addressing an event on Panchayati Raj Diwas through video conferencing on Saturday.
“You not only stopped Corona from reaching villages but also played an important role in creating awareness in villages. This year too we have the challenge of stopping this virus from reaching villages,” PM Modi said.
He exuded confidence that the success can be replicated this year too as local leadership now have experience as well as knowledge.
Right now, the mantra of the panchayats should be “dawai bhi, kadai bhi” (medicine as well as caution), he stressed, adding that the country faced a bigger challenge now from the second wave of the virus.
Chief ministers of eight states joined the event, held virtually.
Modi said villages should follow the guidelines issued by the government and people should also get themselves vaccinated.
PM Modi also launched the distribution of e-property cards under the ‘SWAMITVA scheme during the event. As many as 4.09 lakh property owners were be given their e-property cards under the scheme that was rolled out across the country.
Modi also conferred the National Panchayat Awards 2021 on the occasion.
The SVAMITVA (Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas) scheme was launched by the prime minister on April 24, 2020, as a central scheme to promote a socio-economically empowered and self-reliant rural India.
