Potholes, some as huge as craters, have developed at the junction near Turf Club.
The junction is A-1 defence land and comes under the Military Engineering Services (MES) authorities, a Pune Cantonment Board official said.
“The size of the potholes is such that you cannot dodge them past. One’s motorcycle simply goes through it. The authorities need to pay heed to the issue and repair the potholes at the earliest,” said Priyanka Jadhav, who regularly commutes through the stretch.
Working professional Kishor Raskar from Hadapsar said, “I had a horrible experience while passing through the junction as these potholes are at the blind corner of the road. The other day, my car went into a pothole, and then there was a horrible jerk. The authorities should understand people’s plight and do the needful.”
A senior official from the Pune Cantonment Board’s engineering section said, “We have received several complaints about the bad condition of the road. The area is under the management of the MES. It had resurfaced the road last year. But due to this year’s excessive rainfall water leakages, big potholes have resurfaced on the road. We will soon fill the potholes with material for temporary relief. But the MES needs to do the proper tarring work.”
Subrat Pal, the chief executive officer of the Pune Cantonment Board, told TOI, “We forward the citizens’ complaints to the MES authorities. MES is an independent agency. In this case too, we will contact MES for the repair of the junction.”
The MES authorities did not respond to repeated calls made by TOI on Tuesday.
