KOLKATA: A 26-year-old factory owner from Topsia, Md Aqib Hussain, who was arrested for allegedly murdering labour contractor Mitendra Kumar (37) on Saturday, has alleged Kumar had taken no steps “despite Hussain complaining about the quality of labourers provided by Kumar”. Hussain claimed that Kumar always pushed men from his syndicate to work in the factory, causing financial losses. Several complaints by the accused had fallen on deaf ears.
Cops are investigating claims of a possible syndication of labour being the root cause of trouble between the accused and the victim. “It is early days in the probe and we are looking into the motive. However, several other possibilities, like non payment of dues and personal rivalry, are also being probed,” said an officer.
Cops said many people saw Hussain attack Kumar with a wicket, it won’t be difficult to ascertain what led to the altercation. “Besides recording statements of witnesses, we are going through call details and messages between the two,” an officer said.
The murder, claimed cops, is prima facie linked to financial losses. Cops said the accused attacked the victim with a wicket before asking a rickshaw puller to dump the almost senseless victim at the Panchannagram auto stand.
