“No cuts will be imposed after July 11 till July 26. The alternate-day water supply will not to restarted immediately. The civic administration will take a call on water cuts after July 26 depending on the water stock at that time,” said Aniruddha Pawaskar, the head of PMC’s water supply.
As the stock in dams, which provide water to civic areas had depleted, civic areas were subjected to alternate water supply from July 4 because of poor rainfall. These cuts were to be implemented for eight days in the first phase. The timetable for reduction in supply till July 11 was declared, which was changed on Wednesday because of festivities.
The PMC had offered temporary relief from water cuts from July 8 to July 11 because of festivities. The alternate-day water supply was suspended and regular supply had been introduced for four days. The decision of not implementing the water cuts was taken due to Ashadhi Wari and Bakri Eid but it has now been extended for a fortnight.
The collective water stock in the four dams in the Khadakwasla irrigation circle had dropped to three-year low of 3.4 thousand million cubic feet (TMC) at the time when PMC took the decision of water cuts.
The collective storage in Khadakwasla, Panshet, Varasgaon and Temghar dams has increased to 6.21 TMC. It is enough to meet the city’s water requirements for four months thanks to good showers in the last few days.
