PUNE: Passengers travelling in Intercity Express train between Mumbai and Pune panicked after heavy smoke came out from one of the compartments on Monday.
The incident took place near the Shelarwadi railway station under the Pune division.
According to railway officials, no fire was spotted in any of the compartments.
“The train was passing through the station when the station master spotted heavy smoke coming out near the wheels located near the fourth coach. The official immediately waved the red flag and the train was stopped by the loco pilot. All rail officials rushed towards the train and two fire tenders were used to control the smoke,” said Manoj Jhawar, public relations officer with the Pune rail division.
“There is a system in the brakes of trains these days called brake binding which results in smoke coming out. There is no information of any fire and the train will reach Pune station shortly. After the smoke was controlled, the train started operations at around 9.45am,” said Jhawar.
