SASARAM: The Rohtas police on Saturday busted an interstate road robbers’ gang and solved the murder case of a businessman and loot of his special utility vehicle (SUV), officials said.

Police arrested 2 criminals of the gang and recovered the looted SUV, the weapon and mobile phones used in the businessman’s murder, superintendent of police (SP), Ashish Bharti said.

The body of the Mohania businessman, Raushan Kumar alias Bittu, was found in a hilly area near the famous Tara Chandi temple adjacent to Sasaram on February 25. His SUV vehicle was also missing.

His father registered a murder and loot case along with the SC/ST Act against unknown criminals with Sasaram Mufassil police station as the deceased was a member of a scheduled caste.

The SP formed a special investigation team (SIT) under sub divisional police officer, Sasaram Santosh Kumar Rai. The team on the basis of electronic and manual intelligence located 2 criminals identified as Om Prakash Singh alias Sonu Kumar of Basuhara village in Rohtas and Rajanikant Kumar alias Raja Babu.

Both confessed that they stabbed and killed the businessman and threw his body in bushes on the hills near the temple and took away the SUV.

The looted SUV was recovered from Hariharganj in Palamu district of adjacent Jharkhand on the information provided by the arrested criminals. The blood-stained knife and 3 mobile phones used in the crime were also recovered.

Police have identified rest of the criminals of the interstate gang involved in road robberies and murder and are conducting raids for their arrest. Police have also sought cooperation of their Jharkhand counterparts in the case, SP Bharti said.
