NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday took suo moto cognizance of the Covid-19 situation in the country and issued a notice to the Centre.
A bench headed by Chief S A Bobde said it would also consider the issue pertaining to method and manner of Covid-19 vaccination in the country.
The SC said it wanted a national plan on the issue of supply of oxygen, supply of essential drugs, supply and distribution of vaccines and issue of whether high courts can order lockdown.
The SC said it is imperative for reporting on these issues to be directly to Supreme Court and observes that National plan is necessary to deal with these issues.
Hearing by six different HCs on Covid-19 related issues may create some kind of confusion, the apex court said.
The apex court appointed senior advocate Harish Salve as an amicus curiae to assist it in the suo motu proceedings.
The bench issued notice to the Centre and said it would hear the matter on Friday.
