Second Covid wave: Lockdown should be last resort, focus on micro-containment zones, says PM Modi | India News – Times of India


NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the second wave of Covid had hit the country like a storm but made it clear that imposing lockdown should be the last resort.
The PM urged the states to focus on creating micro-containment zones and work together to save the country from lockdown.
The Prime Minister called upon the youth to form committees, help in Covid administration in their areas to ensure there is no need for containments, lockdowns.
“The challenge before us is big but we have to overcome it with our resolve, courage and preparation,” PM Modi said in his address to the nation on Covid situation.
Acknowledging that the demand for oxygen and beds had increased in many parts of the country during the second wave, PM Modi said, “The Centre, state government, private sector are trying to make oxygen available to all those who are in need of it. Many steps are being taken in this direction.”
“Efforts have been made to ensure Covid-19 vaccines reach all nooks and corners of country. Pharma sector working relentlessly to meet all Covid-19 challenges, including on vaccine development, usage of right medicines,” he said.
PM Modi expressed confidence that the country was better prepared to tackle the crisis caused by the second wave as it had better infrastructure than last year.
“There’s need to spread awareness and guard against rumours; We need to guard against lockdowns and states also need to understand that. If we all follow Covid-19 protocols, there’ll be no need to impose lockdowns,” he stated.
