PUNE: A man (81), staying in a hotel room on Apte Road, was found dead around 9am on Tuesday. The Deccan Gymkhana police on Tuesday night registered an accidental death case.
Senior inspector Vipin Hasabnis of the Deccan Gymkhana police said, “A hotel staffer knocked on the man’s room after he did not call for tea or coffee in the morning. When he did not respond, the police was informed, who broke open the door. He was found sitting motionless in a chair. We moved him to the Sassoon General Hospital, and he was declared dead on arrival.”
Police said the deceased man was a resident of JM Road, but would stay in the hotel room to write stories for his work. An advance postmortem report stated that he died of a coronary artery disease with bilateral pulmonary consolidation. “He was to stay at the hotel for two months,” Hasabnis said, adding, “We handed over his body to his niece. As of now, we do not know if he was married or single.”
