SHIVAMOGGA : When Shekharappa, 55, who had been to a forest to fetch firewood did not return home on Saturday, his family and villagers in Shivamogga’s Hosanagar taluk launched a massive hunt for him, reports Udaya Sagar.
When they drew a blank even after hours of search, it was pet dog Tommy — Shekharappa’s friend in the forest and a family ally for seven years —who led the villagers to a spot where he was found lying unconscious.

The villagers shifted Shekharappa to a hospital in Ripponpet where he recovered after treatment. Doctors said he had passed out under the tree due to heat and exhaustion.
Shekharappa told TOI that he will take care of the dog “till my last breath”. The abandoned female dog took shelter at his house seven years ago and it was welcomed by Shekharappa’s family with the name ‘Tommy’.
