Sohana station house officer Gurjeet Singh was suspended on Thursday for misbehaving with an SP-rank officer in an inebriated state and refusing to obey his orders.
Mohali senior superintendent of police (SSP) Vivek Sheel Soni suspended inspector Gurjeet Singh on grounds of dereliction of duty.
A police officer, who did not wish to be named, said this was not the first time that Gurjeet Singh had misbehaved with a senior officer in a drunken stupor. “He had previously misbehaved with a deputy superintendent of police, but had been let off with a warning. He would often turn up to work under the influence of alcohol, and multiple complaints had been filed against him by the public and his colleagues.”
SSP Soni said, “Gurjeet Singh has been suspended and sent to Police Lines. Indiscipline will not be tolerated. Officers are expected to perform their duties diligently.”

Fire breaks out in Delhi’s Nangloi, 13 tenders rushed
A fire broke out in Delhi’s Nangloi area on late Friday night. The incident, according to Delhi Fire Service, took place around 11.50pm in PVC waste in Kamruddin Nagar in Nangloi. No casualties have been reported so far. The blaze broke out in Nangloi two days after the national capital witnessed two such incidents in Patparganj industrial area – one in a mobile godown and another at a factory.

25-year-old woman killed as car hits three-wheeler in Dera Bassi
A 25-year-old woman was killed, while The victim, Anjali, a resident of Dera Bassi’s three-year-old daughter was injured when the auto-rickshaw they were travelling in was hit by an unknown vehicle on Friday night. The victim, Anjali, a resident of Dera Bassi, was on her way home from Zirakpur with her husband Ashish and daughter Sadhvi when their auto was hit by a vehicle on the Dera Bassi flyover.

Lalru road mishap: Container truck mows down 32-year-old biker
A 32-year-old biker was crushed under a container truck near Ballopur village in Lalru on Thursday night. The victim, Rajesh Kumar, a resident of Hardev Nagar, Lalru Mandi, was on his way home from Malakpur village when the speeding truck hit his two-wheeler at around 9.30 pm. The truck driver fled from the scene. The body was handed over to the victim’s relatives after the post-mortem examination.

Pvt school teachers to also be honoured on Sept 5 in Chandigarh
Each year, on September 5, Teachers’ Day, the UT education department honours government school principals and teachers for their achievements in the field of education. However, this year, the roll of honour will also include educators from the private sector. Teachers, principals, and heads of recognised private schools have been asked to send their nominations to the education department by August 30. Schools can only nominate one teacher.

Sippy Sidhu murder: HC summons CBI’s case record
The Punjab and Haryana high court has summoned records pertaining to the Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the murder of national-level shooter and lawyer Sukhmanpreet Singh, better known as Sippy Sidhu, in September 2015. The high court bench of justice Sureshwar Thakur passed the order after the CBI said it wished to present certain facts about the case before the court made a decision on the accused Kalyani Singh’s bail plea.
