KOLKATA: A top south Kolkata hotel lost Rs 77 lakh to bank fraud after the accused managed to swap the SIM of the registered net banking phone number. The police, however, managed to recover around Rs 70 lakh of this stolen amount on Friday.
This was the fourth incident of SIM swap reported in the city. Cops have blocked the accounts, in which the siphoned money had been transferred. The fraudsters had siphoned the money from the official account of the hotel on Tuesday.
“The account of the hotel is maintained with a private bank at its Minto Park branch. The fraudsters got access to the account through the registered mobile number. The money was transferred to different bank accounts in New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Nellore and Mumbai,” said an officer.
