The South Western Railway has announced that a special tri-weekly express will operate between Bengaluru and Mangaluru from July 26 to August 30. The new special train 06547/06548 will commence from KSR Bengaluru station to Mangaluru central station on July 26.

As the Bengaluru-Mangaluru highway has been affected with frequent landslides due to recent heavy rains, the railways decided to add a tri-weekly express by considering the public demand, reported The Indian Express.

According to the announcement, train no 06547 will depart from Bengaluru at 8:30 pm on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The train will reach Mangaluru by 09.05am on the following day.

Train no. 06548 will depart from Mangaluru at 6:35 pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The train will reach Bengaluru by 6.15 am on the following day.

This special tri-weekly express has two 2 tier AC, two 3 tier AC, nine second class sleeper and two general second class bogies

According to the PTI report, Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel had approached Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav on July 18 in Delhi to approve additional trains to Bengaluru and the latter responded swiftly.

In July 2021, the Indian Railways attached a special Vistadome(transparent glass ceiling) coach to a Mangaluru-Bengaluru train for travelers to experience the beauty of western ghats.
