THANE: The Thane sessions court has convicted a 82-year-old man for the molestation of the then 10-year-old school student and sentenced him to five years of rigorous imprisonment.
The accused, Shivram Patkar was convicted by the special Protection of children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) Judge, Kavita Shirbhate who also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 in an order pronounced earlier this month.
Special public prosecutor Vivek Kadu told the court that it was on the fateful day October 12, 2018 at around 5.30pm when the victim was coming out of school, the accused came from behind and touched her inappropriately in the Ghodbunder Road area. The victim complained to her father who was standing outside the school to pick her up. On seeing her father the accused escaped from the scene, the court was told.
Subsqeuntly, an offence was registered under section molestation of Indian penal code and Section 7 and 8 of POCSO Act, 2012 at Kasarawadavali police station.
As many as ten witnesses testified in the court that nailed the accused along with CCTV footage as additional proof.
