AURANGABAD: The Osmanabad district police have arrested three men including the one who, in an attempt to recover the money he had spent on his live-in partner, got her 8-year-old son kidnapped for a ransom of Rs 2 lakh. The child has been rescued.
Police said the couple had lived together for almost two years in Sangli, Kolhapur and Solapur before differences cropped up between them. The woman then returned to her husband — from whom she had separated in 2020.
However, this did not go down well with her former partner. He started keeping an eye on her movements. Then on January 31, he got the woman’s son kidnapped when she, and her family members, had been to Naldurg in Tuljapur tehsil of Osmanabad district.
The key accused in the case has been identified as Kiran Lade, a 25-year-old from Mohol in the Solapur district. He was upset because he had reportedly taken a hand loan to live with a 26-year-old woman, but she eventually left him. Lade got the woman’s son kidnapped with the help of his friends and sought Rs 2 lakh in ransom. The child has been rescued from the Sangli district.
The other arrested accused are Kishor Tandale (24) and Sunil Hajare (28), both of Miraj in Sangli.
Superintendent of police Atul Kulkarni told TOI: “The probe has revealed that the woman and Lade had come in contact on a social media app. The woman had some differences with her husband and she, along with her two children, left home to live with Lade. They lived together for two years. Since Lade did not have a steady source of income, he took hand loans from different people. He got extremely upset when the woman left him over a week ago to return to her husband.”
To recover the money he spent on her, Lade roped in two of his friends. Siddheshwar Gore, the assistant inspector of Naldurg police station, said that on Lade’s instructions, Tandale kidnapped the boy from a marriage function on January 31. He handed over the boy child to Hajare, who was supposed to keep him in Sangli.
Hours later, the woman received a message, asking her to pay Rs 2 lakh as ransom to get her child back. The accused also asked her to bring Lade along at the time of paying the ransom.
The woman’s family approached the Naldurg police. The cops got suspicious about the kidnappers asking the woman to bring Lade along.
Lade broke down during the questioning and confessed. The police arrested his two accomplices and rescued the boy within 24 hours of the incident.
On Thursday, the accused were produced before the court. They have been remanded in three-day police custody.
