PUNE: A 27-year-old waiter of a restaurant-cum-bar near the ABC Farms Chowk in Mundhwa was attacked with a sharp weapon by three men early on Saturday morning, for not letting them enter the eatery after closing hours.
The victim, Dhirendra Chouhan, sustained injuries on his back, shoulder and hands in the assault. He later lodged a complaint in this connection.

“We have arrested one of the assailants, Abid Yusuf Khan (20), an unemployed youth from the Lohiyanagar slums in Bhavani Peth. We are searching for his two accomplices,” assistant inspector Sandeep Jore of the Mundhwa police said on Sunday, adding, “Khan was the one who attacked Chouhan with a sharp weapon.”
The attack occurred around 2.15am, when Chouhan and his colleague, Vikram Udaeen, were walking to their nearby room after the closure of the eatery they work at.
The trio, travelling on a motorcycle, intercepted them. Two of them grabbed Udaeen and the third man confronted Chouhan for not letting them enter the eatery earlier that night. Later, Khan allegedly assaulted Chouhan with a sharp weapon, before the trio left the spot on their motorcycle.
Jore said, “The two waiters immediately raised an alarm and informed the police about the incident. We took down the descriptions of the trio and their motorcycle registration number, and tracked them down in the area. We identified the motorcycle by its plate and nabbed Khan, who is a school dropout.”
Chouhan was treated at a nearby hospital. His condition was stated as out of danger.
The police have registered a case of attempt to commit culpable homicide against Khan and his two aides.
