UTTARKASHI: Two pilgrims were killed and 13 others got injured after a vehicle they were travelling in fell into a 100-meter deep gorge from Gangotri national highway in Uttarkashi on Sunday night.
According to sources, soon after the incident, teams of ITBP and police launched a rescue operation and sent injured pilgrims to a Harsil-based army hospital.
During treatment, two pilgrims, identified as 45-year-old Alka Bote and Madhvan (details awaited), died. Meanwhile, other injured people were sent to Uttarkashi district hospital.
Devendra Patwal, district disaster management officer, said, “Two critically injured pilgrims Arnav Mahroti (14) and Vaishali (46) have been referred to a higher medical center in Dehradun, whereas Venkatesh (43) is fine and has been discharged from the hospital. Remaining 10 victims are still under treatment at Uttarkashi district hospital”.
“All 14 pilgrims were residents of Aurangabad, Maharashtra, whereas driver was from Premnagar area of Dehradun,” he said.
