KOLKATA: The CCTV grab of a pointsman’s alertness in saving a man lying on the railway tracks of Balichak station under South-Eastern Railway’s Kharagpur division went viral on Thursday.
H Satish Kumar, who was on duty at West Midnapore’s Balichak station, around 90km from Howrah station, was casually walking on the platform with his green flag when he saw a man lying on the tracks around 50m from him as a speeding train from the opposite direction was chugging in.
Kumar started running towards the man, whom he picked up immediately.
He had chucked the flag, climbed down the platform to the tracks to haul up the man and crossed over to the other side.
The CCTV video of the incident was shared extensively by railway officials on social media platforms.
Twitter was agog with congratulatory comments for the brave railway worker.
“We were thrilled to watch it on twitter and shared it among our colleagues on whatsapp,” an official at SER’s Garden Reach headquarters said. “It was an exemplary courage showcased by a railway employee, who risked his own life to save another precious life,” Rajesh Kumar, senior DCM, Kharagpur, said.
