Instant messaging app WhatsApp has reportedly started rolling the support for different playback speeds for voice messages to Android beta users of the app.
The feature was first spotted by WABetaInfo, the website that tracks the upcoming features and changes of the Facebook-owned app, in March in the Android beta version 2.21.60.11 of the app. Now, with the rollout of WhatsApp beta for Android 2.21.9.4, the feature is now being made available.
Android beta users of WhatsApp can check if this feature is activated for them or not by simply playing a voice message. If this feature has been enabled for them, they will be able to see a playback speed symbol.
With this feature, besides being able to play audio messages at standard 1X speed, WhatsApp users will be able to play audio files at 1.5X or 2X speeds.
The feature is currently available to Android beta users of WhatsApp, however, it is expected to be rolled out to non-beta users soon too. Further, iOS users are also likely to get support for the same soon.
Earlier this month, WABetaInfo had claimed that WhatsApp will soon support transferring of chats if they switch from iPhone to Android and vice versa.
The report claims that a future update for iOS and Android of the app will enable the possibility to migrate users’ chat history. “When the user tries to link a device having a different operating system to his WhatsApp account, it’s always needed to update to the latest WhatsApp update available on the App Store or TestFlight, in order to avoid any compatibility error with the Android version,” reveals the report.
