BENGALURU: Amid hectic efforts by authorities to include as many youth as possible in the voters’ list ahead of the assembly polls, Bengaluru Urban electoral district has witnessed a 49% jump in the enrolment of youngsters.
According to Chief Executive Officer of Bengaluru Urban Zilla Panchayat Sangappa, the percentage of young voters in Bengaluru, which was 54,000, has now crossed 1.1 lakh. Bengaluru Urban district comprises seven assembly constituencies: Anekal, Bangalore South, Yeshwantpur, Dasarahalli, Byatarayanapura, Mahadevapura and Yelahanka.
He also pointed out that due to the special and focused activities, several specially abled citizens, members of the transgender community and others have also enrolled in large numbers. “The number of voters from these communities which was 16,000 initially has gone up to 30,000, suggesting a 53% increase,” he revealed.
He directed officials to hold polling-awareness activities on premises of industries, housing complexes, colleges and banks, besides effectively utilising social media platforms to create awareness about polling. tnn
