MANGALURU: A youth was attacked with lethal weapons at Surathkal near Mangaluru on Thursday. Mahammed Fazil, 23, a resident of Mangalapete in Katipalla, was attacked at a footwear shop around 7.30pm. The miscreants had covered their faces. Police have deployed forces in the area and are scanning CCTV footage from nearby shops. Fazil was in the shop when he was attacked. He tried to escape but the miscreants chased and attacked him.
Within two days of the murder of Praveen Nettaru, a youth was attacked with weapons at Surathkal, near Mangaluru, on Thursday.
The victim is Mahammed Fazil, 23, a resident of Mangalapete in Katipalla. He was attacked with a weapon at a footwear shop in Surathkal market around 7.30pm. While the miscreants, who had covered their faces, fled the scene, the critically injured youth was shifted to a hospital immediately. As a precautionary measure, Mangaluru city police deployed forces in the area. A police team is also checking CCTV footage from all the nearby shops.
While Fazil was on his way to the chappal shop, two miscreants attacked him. Though he tried to escape, the miscreants chased him and attacked him again.
Mangaluru City police commissioner N Shashi Kumar told mediapersons three to four miscreants had attacked the youth. A case has been registered at Surathkal police station. “We are trying to ascertain the condition of the youth by speaking to doctors. Very soon, we will find the reason for the attack,” he said.
The commissioner requested people not to spread rumours. “I visited the spot where the incident took place and spoken to eyewitnesses. There is no clarity still regarding the motive behind the attack. We have imposed prohibitory orders under section 144 in Surathkal, Panambur, Mulky and Bajpe police station limits. All liquor shops will remain closed on Friday in these areas. If needed, prohibitory orders will be extended to other places,” he said.
A transparent investigation will be conducted to solve the case, he added
