PUNE: A morning walker at Vetal Tekdi on Thursday morning fractured his legs falling 60 feet from the cliff of a quarry and landing in its water in an attempt to rescue a stranded cat.
The fire brigade officials rescued Ramdas Ubhe (24) of Mhatobanagar in Kothrud after his sisters raised an alarm. A team of the Kothrud police then took the youth to a hospital.

Fire station duty officer Rajesh Jagtap told TOI, “He and his two sisters were walking on the hill. His sisters claimed that they heard the cries of a cat. Then their brother, Ubhe, went to the cliff to check what it was. He spotted the cat but fell off the cliff while trying to save it around 7am on Thursday. He fell about 60 feet and landed on his legs.”
He said, “It was not possible for the rescue van to reach the secluded spot. The fire brigade team waded into neck-deep water and rescued Ubhe despite these odds. We did not find any cat at the spot, though.”
