BENGALURU: A 22-year-old youth has been arrested on the charges of raping and smothering to death the three-and-a-half year-old daughter of his live-in partner at Kamakshipalya, west Bengaluru, on Monday night.
Police said the autopsy report has confirmed sexual assault. The heinous offence came to light when the girl’s mother found her lying unconscious and took her to a hospital where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival. While the man claimed he hit the girl after she pooped in her pants, the woman filed a police complaint, accusing her partner of raping the child before killing her.
The woman, a garment worker, was living with the suspect after her husband deserted her a few years ago. The suspect was addicted to alcohol and quit his job a few months back, police said.
The accused was arrested under Pocso Act and IPC sections 302 (murder) and 376 (rape). He was produced before a court which remanded him in judicial custody.
